Rockaway Beach. What a trek?!
I guess that was the point of getting the train at 10am.
So drinking till 5am and dancing on tables wasn’t the best prep for that.
Surprise, surprise, I left about 3 hours late! What you gonna do?!
But when I did FINALLY got there. After the 3 hour trip. It was so nice.
A big, long, sandy beach. This should really be the standard impression of a beach.
But you know, living in Scotland, a beach is more a place for rubbish and junk to gather. So you only really go there if you’re desperate and want to chance leaving with some horrible disease.
Meanwhile, the actual town of Rockaway. A bit of a dive. That bit, is the opposite of Scotland. We have nice towns and gross beaches.
There’s only so long you can lie on a beach before you need a beer.
I think I lasted about an hour…
Back on the Subway.
Next stop. Rockaway Surf Club.
What a great find! I had seen this place in a lot of different reviews of things to do at the Rockaways.
It is just a little shack with a beer garden. And you can pick one of the imported or random local beers. Margarita’s. Or go outside and get a fresh juice and then chuck a shot in it!
This best bit about this place is that it’s taken a simple idea and made it really great.
And in the beer garden. They have Tacoway Beach.
This has definitely been on my food bucket list.
The fish tacos come highly recommended. So of course I got one of them.
They did not fail to impress.
And a chorizo taco. Very good too.
And a little later I still felt puckish – fatty style – and got a black bean and halloumi quesadilla.
All so good.
By 9 I was on the subway and looking forward to my bed. Who knew a day at the beach could be so exhausting?!
